The second round of Baja California’s 2026 State Selective Fishing Tournament takes place March 29 at Playa El Bebe in Rosarito. It is part of a 25-tournament sport fishing calendar that spans the peninsula from Rosarito to San Quintín. The selectives series determines which anglers qualify for state and national championships. As a result, it draws competitive fishermen from across northern Baja California’s coastal communities. Specifically, the tournament launches from the beach break at Playa El Bebe. This spot is located along the coastal road south of downtown Rosarito near Kilometer 38.
Looking ahead, the 2026 Baja California sport fishing calendar features tournaments at multiple venues. For example, the third event moves to Ensenada on April 26 under the Pura Vida banner. The fourth then heads south to San Quintín on May 30 for the Pioleros del Valle tournament. Meanwhile, the Baja California Sur tournament circuit is even more extensive. It features 126 sport fishing events scheduled for 2026. Consequently, the combined Baja peninsula is one of the most active competitive fishing regions in all of Mexico.
What Anglers Need to Know
Participants in the state selectives must hold a valid Mexican sport fishing license. These can be purchased online through the CONAPESCA website or in person at tackle shops in Rosarito, Ensenada, and Tijuana. A standard annual license costs approximately 600 pesos for residents. However, visiting foreign anglers pay a daily rate of around 280 pesos or a weekly rate of roughly 460 pesos.
The Playa El Bebe launch point is accessible by vehicle from the Rosarito libre road. Additionally, parking is available along the beach access road. Anglers should arrive before dawn on tournament day. Registration and boat inspections typically begin at 5:00 a.m., with lines in the water by 6:30 a.m. For registration details, contact the Baja California Sport Fishing Federation or check bajasport.fishing. Finally, local bait and tackle shops along Rosarito’s Boulevard Benito Juarez can provide current information on target species, recommended rigs, and sea conditions for the March event.
