CETYS Universidad Campus Tijuana defeated the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León (UANL) 12-4 on April 27 to claim its fourth consecutive CONADEIP Final 8 national baseball championship. The game took place at Parque Ángel Camarena, home of the Liga de Béisbol Amateur de Tijuana (LBAT), before a large crowd in the city’s Zona Este.

The victory gives the Zorros their fifth national title overall. It also extends the program’s unbeaten streak in the CONADEIP tournament to 19 consecutive wins, a run stretching back to 2023.

A Rebuilt Roster Rises to the Challenge

This year’s championship carried extra weight because most key players from the previous three title-winning squads had graduated. Manager Francisco Fimbres had to rebuild around younger talent while also managing the pressure of hosting the national tournament on home turf in Tijuana.

Jorge Peralta earned tournament MVP honors after contributing on both offense and defense across all five games. Team captain Quintana, who closed out his student-athlete career with this title, spoke about the difficulty of balancing competitive sports with classes, homework, presentations, and in some cases part-time jobs.

Tournament Field Included Late Addition

CONADEIP (Comisión Nacional Deportiva Estudiantil de Instituciones Privadas) organizes the Final 8 tournament each year for Mexico’s top private university baseball programs. This year’s field included a late addition: the Universidad Autónoma de Chihuahua (UACH), whose Águilas opened the tournament with a 13-1 win over Universidad Anáhuac Querétaro. Anáhuac Querétaro proved to be CETYS’s toughest opponent during the tournament and runs a strong baseball program of its own.

Outfielder Orantes reflected on the achievement after the final out. “CETYS is a family. We have been through many challenges and here we are again, enjoying another national championship,” he said. “That’s four in a row. I don’t know how to keep describing this moment. I can only add: why not dream?”

Eyes on a Fifth Straight Title

The program is already looking ahead to 2027, when it will chase an unprecedented fifth consecutive national title. CETYS Universidad operates campuses in Tijuana, Mexicali, and Ensenada, with the Tijuana campus located on Avenida CETYS Universidad in the Fraccionamiento El Lago neighborhood.
