A road race called “Dejando Huella 2026” will take over the Cabo San Lucas Marina area on Sunday, May 3, starting at 7:00 a.m. The event, organized by the nonprofit Building Baja’s Future (BBF), offers 5K and 10K running distances along with a 3-kilometer recreational walk open to participants of all fitness levels.
Registration has already closed, with approximately 360 runners and walkers signed up. All registered participants will receive a race kit that includes a shirt, a finisher’s medal, and a race number.
Age Categories and Race Details
The race will feature age categories for both men and women, ranging from 18 to 50-plus. The 7:00 a.m. start time takes advantage of cooler morning temperatures in early May, when Cabo San Lucas typically sees highs near 90°F by midday.
The Marina area, one of the most recognizable landmarks in Cabo San Lucas, provides a flat, scenic course along the waterfront. Runners and walkers can expect closures along the marina boardwalk and surrounding streets during the morning hours.
Municipal Agencies Coordinating Safety
A planning meeting brought together several local officials and municipal agencies to coordinate logistics and safety. Attendees included Cabo San Lucas municipal delegate Karina de la O Uribe, Secretaría General coordinator Víctor Hugo Castro Martínez, and BBF president Jacinto Ávalos. Representatives from the municipal Ecology department, Civil Protection, the Sports Institute (Instituto del Deporte), Public Security, and Municipal Traffic also participated.
The coordination meeting covered road closures, emergency response plans, and crowd management for the event. With 360 participants confirmed, organizers expect spectators and family members to add to the morning’s foot traffic near the marina.
About Building Baja’s Future
Building Baja’s Future (BBF) is a Los Cabos nonprofit that organizes community events and charitable programs in the region. The group’s “Dejando Huella” race, which translates to “Leaving a Footprint,” is positioned as both a fitness event and a community fundraiser.
Cabo San Lucas hosts several running events throughout the year, including the annual Los Cabos Half Marathon, which also features 5K and 10K distances. The Dejando Huella race is a smaller, community-focused alternative organized entirely at the local level.
