The Baja California State Band will celebrate its 50th anniversary with two free concerts in June, performing at major venues in Mexicali and Tijuana. No tickets are required for either show.
The first concert takes place June 4 at 8 p.m. at the Teatro del Estado in Mexicali. The second is scheduled for June 11 at 7 p.m. in the El Cubo lobby of the Centro Cultural Tijuana (CECUT), one of the most recognizable cultural landmarks on the border.
A Half Century of Music Across Baja California
Founded on June 16, 1976, the ensemble has spent five decades performing across the state. The band operates under the Sistema Estatal de Música, a program within Baja California’s Secretariat of Culture. Its repertoire spans classical, popular, and traditional Mexican music.
Over the years, the group has performed in schools, public plazas, and rural communities throughout Baja California. The 50th anniversary concerts mark a milestone for one of the state’s longest-running cultural institutions.
Two of Baja California’s Best-Known Venues
Both performance locations are well-known cultural spaces. The Teatro del Estado sits in central Mexicali and regularly hosts theater, dance, and music events. CECUT, located along the Paseo de los Héroes in Tijuana’s Zona Río, is the city’s premier cultural center, home to an IMAX theater, art galleries, and rotating exhibitions. The El Cubo space within CECUT frequently hosts free and low-cost events.
Attendees at neither venue need to reserve seats or obtain tickets. Both concerts are open to the public on a first-come, first-served basis.
