The Mesa de Otay Industrial Association (AIMO) will host its fifth Binational Business Golf Tournament on May 8 at Club Campestre Tijuana, with proceeds going toward equipment for the Tijuana Fire Department.
The annual event brings together business leaders from both sides of the border for a day of networking and fundraising. AIMO, which represents manufacturers and logistics companies in the Mesa de Otay industrial zone, has organized the tournament since 2022 as a way to connect binational business interests while supporting local emergency services.
Building on Last Year’s Success
The fourth edition of the tournament took place in 2025, drawing attendance from Tijuana Mayor Ismael Burgueño Ruiz. That event also directed its proceeds to the Tijuana Fire Department. Rafael Carrillo Venegas, director of the fire department, thanked the industrial sector at the time for its ongoing support, saying events like the tournament help improve working conditions for firefighters.
The fire department has been a focus of municipal investment in recent months. In April 2026, the city announced a delivery of more than 53 million pesos (roughly $2.7 million USD) in new equipment for the department, funded through budget adjustments by the Municipal Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection. The department also recently graduated 68 new emergency responders, expanding its ranks to meet growing demand in a city of nearly two million people.
Cross-Border Networking at Club Campestre
Club Campestre Tijuana, the tournament’s host venue, sits in a valley surrounded by the hills of eastern Tijuana. The private course has been a fixture of the city’s social and business scene for decades and is located roughly 15 minutes from the Otay Mesa port of entry, making it accessible to participants coming from San Diego.
Mesa de Otay is one of Baja California’s most important industrial corridors, home to hundreds of maquiladoras and distribution centers that depend on cross-border trade with the United States. AIMO serves as the area’s main business association, coordinating between Mexican and American firms operating in the zone.
Registration details and sponsorship information for the May 8 tournament had not been published at the time of this report. Interested participants can contact AIMO directly for entry information.
