The Pink Promise women’s sportfishing tournament will take place May 3 in Loreto, with all proceeds going to support women undergoing cancer treatment in Baja California Sur. The Los Cabos municipal government announced it will help promote the event, which has a fundraising goal exceeding 600,000 pesos ($33,000 USD) for this edition.
Teams of four female anglers plus one captain will compete in jack fish (jurel) catches off the coast of Loreto, a colonial town roughly 220 miles north of Los Cabos on the Sea of Cortez. Early registration costs 5,000 pesos ($275 USD) per team, while day-of registration runs 6,000 pesos ($330 USD). The guaranteed prize purse totals 300,000 pesos ($16,500 USD), split among the top three teams.
Side events expand participation beyond fishing
Organizers have scheduled several complementary events alongside the offshore competition. A “Pink Caravan” will travel between Los Cabos and Loreto to build awareness. Children’s fishing clinics and shore-based competitions are also planned to broaden participation and bring economic activity to Loreto’s waterfront and small businesses.
The tournament is part of Baja California Sur’s packed 2026 sportfishing calendar, which state authorities confirmed includes 126 events across all five municipalities. Most competitions run between March and November, with Los Cabos, La Paz, and Loreto hosting the heaviest schedules. But while marquee Los Cabos events like Bisbee’s Black and Blue regularly offer purses in the millions of dollars, Pink Promise stands apart by directing its funds entirely toward breast cancer support.
Registration details and how to join
The tournament has drawn both local and international participants in previous editions. Registration percentages and direct donations are channeled to cancer assistance institutions in the state. Teams interested in competing can register in advance at 5,000 pesos or on the morning of May 3 at 6,000 pesos. Loreto sits about a five-hour drive north of La Paz along the Transpeninsular Highway (Highway 1), and also has a small international airport (LTO) with seasonal flights from several U.S. cities.
