A woman died early Sunday morning after a single-vehicle rollover crash in the La Cali area of San Quintín, located along the Transpeninsular Highway about 300 kilometers south of Ensenada.

Emergency crews responded at 3:48 a.m. to find an overturned truck that had collided with a real estate company office near a commercial plaza. The woman was reportedly trapped beneath the vehicle. First responders were unable to save her.

Speed Believed To Be a Factor

Authorities believe excessive speed contributed to the crash. The incident occurred in a commercial zone where speed limits are typically lower than on open stretches of highway. No other vehicles were involved, and no additional injuries were reported.

The woman’s identity has not been publicly released. Investigators are working to determine the full circumstances of the crash, including whether alcohol or other factors may have played a role.

San Quintín’s Highway Risks

San Quintín sits roughly halfway between Ensenada and Guerrero Negro on Mexico’s Highway 1, the main north-south artery through the Baja California peninsula. The town serves as a key rest stop and supply point for travelers heading to destinations farther south. The highway passes through commercial and agricultural areas where pedestrians, slow-moving farm vehicles, and unmarked speed changes are common.

Night driving on the Transpeninsular Highway carries well-known risks. The road lacks consistent lighting, lane markings can be faded, and livestock sometimes wander onto the pavement. The stretch through San Quintín includes several commercial zones where the speed limit drops from open-highway speeds.

This crash is the latest in a pattern of speed-related fatalities along Highway 1 in the San Quintín corridor. The area has seen increased development and traffic in recent years as the agricultural valley continues to grow.
