Firefighters responding to an early morning blaze at a Tijuana apartment on Thursday, July 2, discovered two bodies with gunshot wounds to the head and signs of having been set on fire. Authorities are treating the case as a double homicide.
The 911 call came in at 6:35 a.m., reporting a fire at a unit on Privada Cima in the Natura residential development. When crews entered the apartment to extinguish the flames, they found the two victims already dead. Both had been shot in the head before the fire was started.
Residential Setting Draws Attention
Natura is a planned residential subdivision, not one of Tijuana’s industrial zones or historically high-crime corridors. The development sits in a neighborhood setting with housing aimed at families and working professionals. The presence of a targeted double killing in this type of community has drawn attention from local authorities and residents alike.
The combination of execution-style gunshots and a deliberately set fire is consistent with tactics used by organized crime groups in Mexico.
