Tijuana municipal police arrested a 50-year-old fugitive wanted for aggravated pederasty against a 14-year-old girl after a routine traffic stop on Wednesday, May 7.
Officers pulled over the suspect, identified as Enrique Adrián, on the Tijuana-Rosarito highway in the La Gloria neighborhood. The initial reason for the stop was a seatbelt violation. When officers ran his information through dispatch, they discovered an active arrest warrant for aggravated pederasty, a serious sex crime against a minor under Mexican law.
Warrant Discovered During Routine Check
The arrest came after patrol officers cross-referenced the man’s identity with state fugitive databases during the stop. This practice, standard in Tijuana’s municipal police operations, is designed to catch individuals with outstanding warrants during everyday enforcement.
Enrique Adrián was taken into custody without incident. His vehicle was impounded at the scene. Officers then transferred him to the Fiscalía General del Estado (FGE), Baja California’s State Attorney General’s Office, which will handle the prosecution.
Charges Carry Severe Penalties
Under Baja California’s penal code, aggravated pederasty involves sexual acts committed against a minor and carries some of the harshest prison sentences in the state’s criminal justice system. The “aggravated” classification typically applies when the victim is under 15, when the perpetrator holds a position of trust, or when force or coercion is involved. In this case, the alleged victim was a 14-year-old girl.
La Gloria sits along the Tijuana-Rosarito free road, a corridor that sees heavy daily traffic between the two cities. The area is well known to residents and visitors who commute between Tijuana and Playas de Rosarito.
The case is the latest example of Tijuana police using routine stops to flag wanted individuals. In recent months, officers across Baja California have made several high-profile arrests through similar database checks during traffic enforcement.
The FGE has not released further details about the original case or when the warrant was issued. This story was first reported by Punto Norte.
