Sonora state prosecutors arrested a 40-year-old man known as “Tito” at a hospital in San Luis Río Colorado, executing a warrant tied to an aggravated kidnapping charge and a triple homicide in Tijuana.

Loreto “N,” alias “Tito,” was considered a priority target by Baja California authorities. The Fiscalía General de Justicia del Estado de Sonora (FGJES), Sonora’s state attorney general’s office, carried out the arrest through a coordinated operation with Baja California law enforcement.

Three Bodies Found Burned in Vehicle

The case is connected to a grim discovery on January 30, 2026, when three burned bodies were found inside the trunk of a torched vehicle at a shopping plaza in Tijuana’s eastern Colonia Villas del Campo neighborhood. That area sits in the sprawling eastern zone of Tijuana, a rapidly developing part of the city east of Boulevard 2000.

Investigators linked Loreto “N” to both the kidnapping and the triple killing. Authorities have not publicly disclosed the identities of the three victims or clarified whether the kidnapping charge relates directly to the people found dead.

Cross-State Arrest in San Luis Río Colorado

San Luis Río Colorado is a border city in Sonora, roughly 200 miles east of Tijuana, sitting across the border from San Luis, Arizona. The suspect was located at a hospital there, though prosecutors did not explain why he was receiving medical treatment or how long he had been in Sonora.

The cross-state arrest required coordination between prosecutors in two different Mexican states. Baja California authorities issued the warrant, and Sonora’s FGJES executed it. This type of interstate law enforcement cooperation has become more common as suspects flee across state lines to avoid capture.

Tijuana’s Ongoing Security Challenges

Tijuana has long struggled with high rates of violent crime tied to organized criminal groups competing for territory and smuggling routes into the United States. The city recorded hundreds of homicides in 2025, and incidents involving burned vehicles with bodies inside have occurred periodically in various neighborhoods.

The Colonia Villas del Campo area where the three victims were found is a residential zone that has seen growth in recent years, located near the road to the Otay Mesa border crossing used by many commuters and commercial vehicles.

Loreto “N” now faces prosecution on the aggravated kidnapping charge. It remains unclear whether additional charges related to the triple homicide will follow.
