Tijuana municipal police arrested a doctor working at a Farmacias Similares clinic in the Villa Fontana neighborhood after a patient reported being sexually abused during a consultation. Officers responded to the pharmacy’s attached medical office after receiving a 911 call on March 9.
The victim filed a formal complaint at the scene, and officers detained the doctor pending charges. The Fiscalía General del Estado is handling the investigation. Authorities have not released the doctor’s name, but confirmed that the arrest took place at the Farmacias Similares branch on a main commercial strip in Villa Fontana, a residential area in Tijuana’s eastern zone.
Farmacias Similares operates thousands of pharmacy locations across Mexico, each with an attached doctor’s office that provides low-cost consultations for around 35 pesos ($2 USD). The clinics are widely used by residents who cannot afford private medical care or face long waits at public hospitals. The chain has not issued a public statement about the arrest.
For American visitors and expats who use Farmacias Similares clinics for minor medical needs, the incident is a reminder that these walk-in offices operate with less oversight than hospitals or dedicated medical practices. Patients have the right to file complaints directly with police or with the state medical regulatory board, COEPRIS.
