Tijuana municipal police arrested three men on the afternoon of April 22 after discovering a partially buried body inside a home in Colonia Camino Verde, a residential neighborhood in the city’s Delegación Sánchez Taboada.
Officers on routine patrol along Avenida Baja California noticed two men flee into the residence when they spotted the patrol cars. Blood stains near the home’s entrance prompted police to enter the property. Inside, they found a man’s body covered with dirt in a stairwell area.
Three Suspects Detained After Foot Chase
A third suspect attempted to escape by jumping into a side street but was caught nearby. The three detainees were identified as Ángel Luis, 24; Gustavo Jimmy, 29; and Juan Ángel, 28. All three were held at the scene while officers from the Guardia Nacional arrived to secure the perimeter.
The victim, described as a man wearing a black t-shirt, is unofficially believed to be the homeowner. The state Attorney General’s office (Fiscalía General del Estado, or FGE) has not yet confirmed the victim’s identity.
FGE Takes Over Investigation
FGE investigators and forensic personnel processed the crime scene and transported the body to the Semefo morgue for autopsy and formal identification. The case remains under active investigation, and authorities have not disclosed a suspected motive.
Colonia Camino Verde sits in the southeastern portion of Tijuana’s Sánchez Taboada delegation, roughly five miles from the San Ysidro border crossing. The area is a working-class residential neighborhood, well removed from the Zona Centro and Zona Río corridors where most cross-border visitors spend their time.
The discovery marks at least the second time in recent years that Tijuana police have found human remains partially buried inside a residence in the Sánchez Taboada area. In November 2021, officers in the Sánchez Taboada II neighborhood located a skull and a semi-buried body in the courtyard of a home after a bound and beaten man flagged down a patrol car.
