Agents from Ensenada’s Fiscalía General del Estado (FGE, or State Attorney General’s office) recovered a stolen vehicle on May 28 after executing a search warrant at a property in Maneadero, a community about 20 kilometers south of downtown Ensenada along the Transpeninsular Highway.

The FGE’s Vehicle Theft Investigation Unit located a white 2004 Mazda MPV at a property on Calle Melchor Ocampo in the hillside area of Maneadero. The vehicle had been reported stolen on May 10, making the recovery roughly 18 days after the original theft report.

Search Warrant Leads to Recovery

Officers from the Agencia Estatal de Investigación (AEI, or State Investigation Agency) carried out the operation. The search warrant targeted a specific property where investigators had reason to believe the stolen vehicle was being stored.

No arrests were reported in connection with the recovery. The FGE did not release details about the vehicle’s owner or how investigators traced the Mazda to the Maneadero location.

Vehicle Theft Remains a Concern in Ensenada

Maneadero sits along Highway 1 south of Ensenada and serves as an agricultural hub for the region. The area’s hillside neighborhoods, which sit above the main road, have been known as locations where stolen vehicles are sometimes hidden on rural properties.

Vehicle theft is a persistent problem across the greater Ensenada area. Older model vehicles like the 2004 Mazda MPV are frequent targets because they lack modern anti-theft systems. Residents and visitors who park vehicles in less-traveled areas are particularly at risk.

The recovery is one example of follow-through by the FGE’s specialized vehicle theft unit, which handles stolen vehicle reports across the municipality. Residents who have had vehicles stolen can file reports at FGE offices in Ensenada.
