The Baja California Sur Attorney General’s Office (PGJE) has opened a formal investigation after two graffiti messages threatening a shooting were discovered at a middle school in San José del Cabo. The threats were found on consecutive days in the boys’ bathroom at Escuela Secundaria José Refugio Rodríguez González in the Colonia Santa Rosa neighborhood.

The first message, discovered on April 21, read “SHOOTING 04/26/2026 DON’T MISS IT.” A second message appeared on April 22 with an even more urgent warning: “SHOOTING 04/23/2026.” That second date, April 23, is today, putting families and school staff on high alert.

Security Protocols Activated Across Los Cabos

Authorities responded by activating security protocols at the school. The PGJE is coordinating with school administrators, the Los Cabos Municipal Public Security Directorate, and local police to increase surveillance around the campus. Officers have been deployed to protect students and staff during school hours.

Investigators are working to identify the person or persons who wrote the messages. The PGJE has urged parents to remain calm and to rely only on official communications from authorities and school administrators rather than social media rumors.

An Active Threat on a Tense Day

The timing has created real anxiety in the community. With one of the threatened dates falling today, parents in the San José del Cabo area face the difficult decision of whether to send their children to school. Authorities have not announced any school closures but have confirmed that increased police presence will remain in place.

Escuela Secundaria José Refugio Rodríguez González serves students in the Colonia Santa Rosa area, a residential neighborhood on the north side of San José del Cabo. The school sits roughly 2 kilometers from the town center.

Threats of school violence remain relatively rare in Baja California Sur. This incident has drawn significant attention from local authorities, who say the investigation is being treated as a priority. The PGJE has asked anyone with information about the graffiti to contact authorities immediately. This story was first reported by BCS Noticias.
