Seven masked men forced their way into a home in La Paz’s Colonia Perlas del Golfo neighborhood early Wednesday morning and beat a 32-year-old man, leaving him hospitalized with serious injuries. The home invasion occurred at approximately 3:15 a.m. on May 28.

Municipal Police officers responding to the scene found the victim with multiple injuries, including a visible head contusion. He told officers that some of the attackers carried firearms while others wielded bats and clubs.

Victim Locked in Room as Attackers Fled

According to the victim’s account, the group of seven men fled when they heard police units approaching the residence. He told officers he had been briefly locked inside a room during the assault. When he was able to get out, he discovered the other occupants of the home had scattered on their own.

Investigators initially suspected a possible kidnapping. That suspicion was ruled out after authorities located all residents of the home safe and accounted for.

State Attorney General Opens Formal Investigation

The Baja California Sur Attorney General’s Office (PGJE) confirmed that criminal investigators and the Ministerio Público have opened a formal case. Forensic technicians processed the scene and collected physical evidence under chain of custody protocols.

The victim was transported to a hospital, where his injuries were classified as serious but not life-threatening. Medical officials determined his injuries, described as multiple abrasions, would require more than 15 days to heal. Under Mexican criminal law, that threshold elevates the severity of the assault charge.

No Arrests Reported

As of Wednesday afternoon, no arrests had been made in connection with the attack. The coordinated nature of the assault, involving seven individuals with weapons and face coverings, points to a planned operation rather than an opportunistic crime.

Colonia Perlas del Golfo is a residential neighborhood on the outskirts of La Paz, located south of the city center. La Paz, the capital of Baja California Sur with a population of roughly 300,000, has traditionally been considered one of Mexico’s safer cities. Home invasions involving this level of organization are uncommon in the area.

The investigation remains open. Anyone with information can contact the PGJE. This story was first reported by Colectivo Pericú.
