Tijuana Municipal Police arrested a 27-year-old man linked to nearly 50 violent commercial robberies across the city after bystanders subdued him during a holdup on the night of April 8.

Carlos Daniel, originally from Los Mochis, Sinaloa, was captured in the Valle Vista neighborhood after citizens intervened during a robbery at a local business. Paramedics treated him at the scene and cleared him of serious injuries before officers transferred him to the Baja California state prosecutor’s office (FGE).

A Prolific Crime Spree Across Familiar Stores

Police say they have connected Carlos Daniel to at least 16 robberies at Oxxo convenience stores, 11 holdups at Farmacias Roma pharmacies, five incidents at 7-Eleven locations, and three at Rendichicas gas stations. He is also accused of targeting a Bodega Aurrera store, a pizzeria, and multiple cellphone repair shops. The total comes to roughly 50 reported commercial robberies in recent months.

All of the targeted chains are fixtures of daily life in Tijuana. Oxxo and 7-Eleven stores are found on nearly every major street, and Farmacias Roma is one of the most common pharmacy chains in Baja California.

Wanted for Attempted Feminicide

At the time of his arrest, Carlos Daniel had an active warrant for attempted feminicide, a charge under Mexican law for attempted murder targeting a woman based on gender. Security forces had classified him as a priority target before the April 8 capture.

The arrest follows a pattern of citizen involvement in Tijuana crime stops. In this case, people at or near the business physically restrained the suspect until police arrived. Authorities noted that the tally of nearly 50 robberies reflects only those that were formally reported, meaning the true number could be higher.

Not the First Serial Store Robber in Tijuana

Tijuana has dealt with similar serial robbery cases before. In September 2025, police arrested Francisco “N,” known as “El Mini Ruco,” who was linked to at least 17 Oxxo store robberies. The recurrence of such cases points to an ongoing challenge for convenience store and pharmacy security in the city.

Carlos Daniel remains in custody at the state prosecutor’s office, where he faces charges related to the string of robberies and the outstanding feminicide warrant.

The arrest was first reported by Punto Norte on April 9.
