A semi-truck left the road and overturned Monday afternoon on the highway connecting La Paz to the San Pedro delegation in Baja California Sur, injuring two people. One occupant was critically hurt and required a technical rescue to be freed from the cab.
Firefighters responded to the semi-truck rollover scene and worked to extract the trapped passenger, who was classified as a code red patient. SAMU (Servicio de Atención Médica de Urgencias), the state’s pre-hospital emergency medical service, rushed the critically injured person to a hospital in La Paz.
Second Occupant Also Hospitalized
A second person aboard the truck sustained less severe injuries. That individual was classified under code yellow status, indicating a non-life-threatening condition. Paramedics transported the second occupant to a medical center for treatment.
The accident triggered a multi-agency response that included firefighters, paramedics, and pre-hospital medical personnel. Authorities secured the crash site along the two-lane highway, which connects the state capital to the rural San Pedro delegation roughly 30 kilometers to the south.
Key Route for La Paz Residents and Travelers
The La Paz to San Pedro road is a well-traveled route used daily by local residents, commercial truckers, and visitors heading to farming communities and beaches south of the city. A rollover involving a large commercial vehicle on this road can block traffic in both directions for hours, given the highway’s limited width and lack of alternate routes in some stretches.
Authorities have not yet released the names of the two injured occupants or details about what the truck was hauling at the time of the crash. The cause of the rollover remains under investigation, and officials said findings will be included in formal reports.
