State Investigators Process the Scene
Criminal investigators from the PGJE’s State Criminal Investigation Agency arrived at the location to conduct preliminary interviews and verify the circumstances of the shooting. Forensic personnel processed the scene and collected physical evidence for laboratory analysis.
No suspect information has been released. The PGJE has not disclosed whether the shooting stemmed from a domestic dispute, a targeted attack, or another motive.
Comondú’s Ongoing Security Concerns
Ciudad Constitución, with a population of roughly 43,800 as of the 2020 census, serves as the municipal seat of Comondú. The agricultural city sits along the Magdalena Plain, about 130 miles northwest of La Paz on the Transpeninsular Highway.
The shooting adds to a pattern of gun violence in the Comondú municipality. In November 2025, a man was fatally shot in Ciudad Constitución just one day after the municipal president’s government report claimed security operations had restored peace to the area. In October 2025, a joint military and law enforcement operation in the city’s Pueblo Nuevo neighborhood captured an alleged top criminal leader linked to the Mayo cartel faction who had been tied to violence across Comondú and Loreto.
Homicides, daytime shootings, and armed confrontations have been reported across several BCS municipalities in recent months, including Comondú, Loreto, and Mulegé. The PGJE state prosecutor has personally traveled to Comondú to coordinate security operations and detentions, according to prior press conferences.
