State criminal investigation agents arrested a 45-year-old man on Thursday afternoon in Ciudad Constitución after finding approximately 3.1 grams of crystal methamphetamine in his possession. The arrest took place at the corner of José María Morelos y Pavón and Boulevard General Agustín Olachea, in the heart of the town’s downtown area.
The suspect, identified only as Luis “N” under Mexican privacy protocols, allegedly drew the attention of agents when he began acting nervously and tried to flee as officers approached. A search of his belongings turned up a clear plastic bag containing the drugs, which authorities estimated could yield roughly 77 individual doses.
Part of Ongoing Anti-Narcotics Operations
The Baja California Sur Attorney General’s Office (PGJE, Procuraduría General de Justicia del Estado) carried out the arrest as part of its ongoing anti-narcotics campaign targeting retail drug sales across the state. Agents transferred Luis “N” to the specialized narcotics prosecutor’s office, where officials will determine his legal status and potential charges.
Ciudad Constitución, located about 210 kilometers north of La Paz along the Transpeninsular Highway (Highway 1), serves as the commercial and agricultural center of the Comondú municipality. The town is a common stopping point for travelers driving between La Paz and points north, including Loreto and Guerrero Negro. The intersection where the arrest occurred sits along one of the town’s main commercial corridors.
Street-Level Enforcement in Comondú
While the quantity of methamphetamine seized was small, the operation fits a broader pattern of PGJE street-level enforcement actions in mid-sized BCS towns. Crystal methamphetamine remains the most commonly seized drug in Baja California Sur, and authorities have focused recent operations on disrupting retail distribution networks rather than solely targeting large shipments.
The arrest adds Ciudad Constitución to the list of BCS communities where state agents have conducted visible anti-drug operations in recent weeks. Authorities have not indicated whether the suspect is connected to any larger distribution network.
