A man was shot and killed Wednesday night in Tijuana’s Camino Verde neighborhood, the second fatal shooting in the same colonia in less than a month. Police responded to reports of gunfire around 9:23 p.m. on Calle Homero, near the intersection with Calle Sócrates, in the Sánchez Taboada district. Officers found the victim lying on the street with no vital signs.

Red Cross paramedics arrived at the scene and confirmed the man was dead. Preliminary reports describe the victim as a man between 25 and 30 years old, of slim build, bald, and wearing a black shirt, green shorts, and black sneakers. He had been walking on foot when he was attacked. Authorities have not yet publicly identified him.
FGE (Baja California’s state attorney general’s office) investigators processed the crime scene and transferred the body to the Servicio Médico Forense for formal identification and autopsy. Police launched a search of the surrounding area but made no arrests Wednesday night.
Second Killing in Camino Verde Since February
The shooting marks the second homicide in Camino Verde in recent weeks. On February 22, another man was shot and killed in the same colonia, also in the Sánchez Taboada district. In that case, police also made no immediate arrests and found few clues at the scene.
Camino Verde sits on the hillsides east of central Tijuana, a lower-income area with narrow streets and dense housing blocks. The neighborhood has been a recurring site of cartel-linked violence for years. In 2017, a U.S. citizen named Larry Macy was killed along with two others when a gunman opened fire inside a seafood restaurant in the same neighborhood.
Tijuana recorded more than 1,500 homicides in recent years, with many concentrated in outlying colonias like Camino Verde that sit along drug distribution corridors. The area lies well outside the Zona Río and Playas de Tijuana districts where most foreign visitors and cross-border commuters spend their time.
No motive has been announced for Wednesday’s killing, and no suspects have been named. The FGE investigation remains open, according to Punto Norte and El Imparcial.
