A man approximately 20 years old was found dead Monday afternoon in the Colonia Tejamen neighborhood of Tijuana. His body was discovered face down on an open field along Calle Del Prado after a 911 call placed around noon.
Municipal police were first to respond and confirmed the death at the scene. Officers cordoned off the area before the Fiscalía General del Estado (FGE), Baja California’s State Attorney General’s office, took over the investigation.
Visible Injuries Found on Victim
According to the initial report, the victim’s body showed visible signs of violence and multiple injuries, including a noticeably swollen hand. Authorities have not yet released the man’s identity or a possible motive.
Colonia Tejamen sits in the eastern part of Tijuana, a residential area south of Boulevard Lázaro Cárdenas. The neighborhood is roughly 20 minutes by car from the San Ysidro border crossing.
Ongoing Violence in Tijuana
The discovery comes as Tijuana continues to record some of the highest homicide rates in Baja California. In recent weeks, bodies with signs of trauma have been found in several parts of the city and surrounding municipalities. Earlier in April, a body wrapped in a sleeping bag was discovered at a busy intersection in eastern Tijuana, and a man with signs of torture was found along the Tijuana-Tecate highway in the municipality of Tecate.
The FGE has not announced any suspects or arrests in connection with Monday’s case. Forensic investigators processed the scene and transported the body to the Servicio Médico Forense (SEMEFO), Tijuana’s medical examiner facility, for autopsy and formal identification.
Anyone with information about this case can contact the FGE or call 911. This story was first reported by Jornada BC.
