A 45-year-old man was found dead inside a residence in the Santa Rosa neighborhood of San José del Cabo on Monday morning, June 29. Municipal police reported the discovery at approximately 11:40 a.m., prompting investigators to respond to the scene on Hacienda Corralejo Street at the corner of Valentín Gómez Farías.
Agents from the State Criminal Investigation Agency (AEIC) and forensic personnel from the Baja California Sur Attorney General’s Office (PGJE) processed the location. The deceased, originally from the State of Mexico, was found wearing black pants and no shirt.
Signs of Possible Foul Play
Authorities noted bruising around the man’s eyes and on his left hand. Those injuries raised concerns about the circumstances of his death. His body was transferred to SEMEFO, the state forensic medical service, for an official autopsy to determine the cause of death.
The PGJE’s intentional homicide unit has opened a formal investigation into the case. Investigators have not publicly named any suspects or disclosed a possible motive.
Santa Rosa: A Residential Area Near Downtown
The Santa Rosa neighborhood sits in the urban core of San José del Cabo, a few blocks from the town’s central commercial district. The area is primarily residential, home to working-class families and small businesses. It is not part of the tourist corridor that connects San José del Cabo to Cabo San Lucas.
The discovery comes during a period of heightened security concerns in Los Cabos. Earlier in June, an American bystander from California, 31, was killed in a shootout involving soldiers in San José del Cabo. That incident also injured a 14-year-old boy, a 65-year-old woman, and two other civilians.
Separate Case From Suspected Graves
Authorities emphasized that this case is separate from reports of a suspected clandestine graves site discovered in San José del Cabo on June 30. That investigation is being handled by a different unit within the PGJE.
The identity of the deceased has not been released pending notification of family members. Anyone with information about the case can contact the PGJE.
