A 50-year-old man was found dead Wednesday morning at a property near the 3rd Military Zone in La Paz, prompting a formal investigation by the Baja California Sur State Attorney General’s Office (PGJE).
Authorities received a call at 6:51 a.m. on April 15 reporting a body suspended from a wall with a rope around the neck. The property sits at the intersection of 5 de Mayo and Venustiano Carranza streets, in the area surrounding the military zone’s grounds in central La Paz.
Investigators Respond to the Scene
Agents from the Agencia Estatal de Investigación Criminal (State Criminal Investigation Agency) and forensic personnel from the PGJE arrived at the location and confirmed the report. Paramedics also responded but found no vital signs.
The body was transferred to SEMEFO, the state forensic medical service, for a legally mandated autopsy. That examination will determine the official cause and circumstances of death.
Foul Play Not Ruled Out
The PGJE stated it has opened a formal investigation and will pursue all evidence collected at the scene. Because the manner of death involved suspension, authorities are not ruling out foul play pending autopsy results. The proximity of the location to the 3rd Military Zone adds a layer of sensitivity to the case.
The intersection of 5 de Mayo and Venustiano Carranza is in a well-traveled part of central La Paz, just blocks from the malecón and the downtown commercial district. The 3rd Military Zone, headquartered in La Paz, oversees Mexican Army operations across Baja California Sur.
The victim’s identity has not been publicly released. No suspects have been named, and the PGJE has not disclosed whether the man had any connection to the military installation.
