Tijuana municipal police arrested a 44-year-old cleaning worker on June 1 after he allegedly headbutted a 14-year-old boy inside Plaza Sendero, a large shopping center in the city’s Presa Rural district.

The suspect, identified as Edmundo “N” under Mexican privacy protocols, was taken into custody after the teen’s father flagged down officers near the mall. According to the police report, the father told officers that the employee struck his son in the face without provocation as the boy walked through the shopping center.

Teen Suffered Visible Nose Injury

The 14-year-old sustained a nose injury and visible bleeding from the alleged headbutt. Officers detained Edmundo “N” at the scene and transported him to local authorities for processing.

Police handed the suspect over to the Fiscalía General del Estado (FGE), Baja California’s State Attorney General’s Office. Prosecutors will now determine what formal charges to file. Assault on a minor can carry enhanced penalties under Mexican law.

Plaza Sendero’s Location and Context

Plaza Sendero sits along the Carretera Tecate highway in Tijuana’s Presa Rural delegation, east of the city center. The mall is one of Tijuana’s larger commercial complexes, housing retail stores, restaurants, and a cinema. It draws steady foot traffic from surrounding residential neighborhoods.

The motive behind the alleged attack remains unclear. Neither the original police report nor subsequent coverage has explained why the mall employee allegedly struck the teenager. No other injuries were reported, and no other individuals were detained in connection with the incident.

Municipal police responded quickly to the father’s complaint, detaining the suspect on site. The case now rests with state prosecutors, who will decide whether to pursue charges for assault causing bodily harm to a minor.
