Baja California Sur’s Attorney General announced the arrest of a 27-year-old man wanted for a home robbery in Los Cabos. Investigators captured Reemberto “N,” a Sinaloa native, in the Huertos Familiares neighborhood of Mazatlán on April 2.
Criminal investigators from the BCS State Criminal Investigation Agency (AEI) coordinated with prosecutors in Sinaloa to locate and apprehend the suspect. Reemberto “N” had fled the Baja California Sur peninsula after allegedly committing a qualified home robbery in the Los Cabos municipality. Under Mexican law, “qualified” robbery typically involves aggravating factors such as forced entry, use of violence, or the presence of occupants during the crime.
Cross-State Coordination Led to Capture
The arrest required cooperation between two state-level prosecutor’s offices separated by the Sea of Cortez. Mazatlán, a major port city in Sinaloa, is connected to the Baja California Sur peninsula by regular ferry service from La Paz, roughly 200 miles north of Los Cabos. That ferry route has long been identified as a corridor for people and goods moving between the two states.
After his arrest, authorities transferred Reemberto “N” back to Cabo San Lucas. He was brought before a control judge in the Los Cabos judicial district, where a hearing was held to determine his legal status and whether he would remain in custody pending trial.
Property Crime Remains a Concern in Los Cabos
The BCS Attorney General used the announcement to reaffirm the office’s commitment to following up on citizen complaints related to property crimes. The case is notable because suspects in Los Cabos property crimes sometimes flee to mainland Mexico, making apprehension more difficult for BCS authorities who lack jurisdiction outside the state.
Los Cabos, which encompasses Cabo San Lucas, San José del Cabo, and the resort corridor between them, has a large population of foreign residents and seasonal visitors. Property crimes, including home burglaries, remain among the most commonly reported offenses in the municipality. Federal crime data from early 2024 listed robbery among the top reported crimes in the Los Cabos area.
