Officers arrived at the residential colonia after receiving calls about shots fired. They secured the scene and began investigating the circumstances of the shooting. Authorities have not identified suspects or disclosed a possible motive.
A Neighborhood With Recent Security Concerns
Campestre El Mezquitito sits in the southern part of La Paz, the capital of Baja California Sur. The area and its neighboring colonias have drawn law enforcement attention over the past year. In May 2025, authorities from the state Attorney General’s Office (PGJE) investigated the discovery of a charred body inside a burned vehicle in the nearby Ampliación Mezquitito neighborhood.
That incident was linked to a broader wave of violence attributed to confrontations between criminal groups in the state. At the time, federal and state officials announced reinforced surveillance in southern La Paz neighborhoods and tourist areas.

Saturday’s shooting appears to have targeted a stationary vehicle, and no victims have been reported so far. Authorities are working to determine whether the incident is connected to any ongoing criminal activity in the area.
La Paz has generally maintained a reputation as one of the safer cities in Baja California Sur, though sporadic incidents of gun violence have occurred in outlying colonias. The city’s more central and tourist-oriented zones, including the Malecón and downtown, were not affected.
