Four young people were injured Saturday night when a grey Honda Fit rolled over at the intersection of Ciencias del Mar and Forjadores streets in La Paz, next to the Jardines del Recuerdo cemetery.
Emergency crews responded shortly after 11 p.m. and found bystanders already helping the victims on the roadway. One passenger, 22-year-old América Sarahí, suffered an exposed leg fracture and was transported in yellow-code condition to the IMSS (Mexican Social Security Institute) hospital.
Multiple Passengers Treated for Fractures and Trauma
Two other passengers were treated at the scene. One, identified as a student at UABCS (Autonomous University of Baja California Sur), sustained blunt trauma and a suspected arm fracture. The fourth occupant and driver, 22-year-old Marcos Daniel, was evaluated by paramedics as well.
Investigators preliminarily ruled out alcohol as a contributing factor in the crash. Traffic investigation specialists took control of the scene to determine the cause of the single-vehicle rollover.
Intersection Sits in Residential Zone Near Major Boulevard
The crash site sits along Boulevard Forjadores, one of La Paz’s main arterial roads connecting the city center with the UABCS campus and the southern neighborhoods. The intersection with Ciencias del Mar runs adjacent to the municipal cemetery in a residential area with moderate street lighting and limited traffic infrastructure.
Forjadores carries heavy daytime traffic but thins out after dark. The stretch near Jardines del Recuerdo includes curves and uneven pavement in places. Drivers unfamiliar with the road should exercise caution at night.
Yellow-code triage, the designation given to América Sarahí’s condition, indicates a serious but non-life-threatening injury requiring urgent hospital care. No updates on her condition or the other patients’ status were available at the time of reporting.
