A fire broke out inside a small warehouse in La Paz’s Puesta del Sol neighborhood early Thursday morning, destroying two high-value vehicles before firefighters contained the blaze. No injuries were reported.
Police officers on patrol spotted heavy smoke rising from a property on Retorno Galeón street around 2:00 a.m. on April 3, Holy Thursday. They called for backup, and firefighters arrived quickly to extinguish the fire before it could spread to neighboring structures.
Two Late-Model Vehicles Destroyed
The fire consumed a white Ford Raptor, approximately a 2020 model, and a black Chevrolet Suburban, approximately a 2025 model. Both vehicles were parked inside the property at the time of the fire. A Ford Raptor of that year sells for roughly 800,000 to 1,200,000 pesos (approximately $40,000 to $60,000 USD), while a near-new Suburban can exceed 1,500,000 pesos ($75,000 USD).
Authorities have not yet determined what caused the blaze. No official statement has been released on whether arson or an electrical fault is suspected.
No Wider Risk During Holy Week
Puesta del Sol is a residential neighborhood on La Paz’s east side, away from the main tourist corridor along the malecón and downtown area. The fire was fully contained within the property, and no evacuations were necessary.
The incident occurred during Semana Santa, one of the busiest travel periods in Baja California Sur. La Paz sees a significant influx of domestic and international visitors during Holy Week, though this fire posed no public safety risk beyond the affected property.
Investigators are expected to return to the site to examine the cause. The property owner has not been publicly identified.
