The FBI and Baja California prosecutors are searching for two Utah toddlers believed to be in Tijuana after their father allegedly abducted them and drove across the border. An international Amber Alert is active for Wesley Dane Richman, 10 months old, and Will Thomas Richman, 22 months old.
Their father, 46-year-old Dane Richman, took the boys from Saratoga Springs, Utah, on May 16 during a scheduled custody visit. He never returned them. Three days later, on May 19, security cameras at the San Ysidro port of entry captured his black 2025 Toyota Camry with Utah temporary plates (A561HL) crossing into Mexico.
Father Quit Job, Emptied Home Before Disappearing
Richman had shared custody of the children following a separation from their mother. He disappeared with the boys on a day he was supposed to attend a custody hearing. When family members checked his home, they found it completely emptied of belongings.
The boys’ aunt told ABC4 that Richman had also quit his job roughly a week before taking the children, leaving him with no source of income. An arrest warrant has been issued for Richman. The Utah Department of Public Safety issued the Amber Alert on May 25, stating that law enforcement believes the children face “imminent danger of injury or death.”
Baja California Attorney General Coordinating With FBI
Baja California’s Fiscalía General del Estado (FGE, the state attorney general’s office) confirmed it is working directly with the FBI to locate the children. Authorities describe Richman as suffering from severe depression, which they say puts the toddlers at heightened risk.
Richman is described as a white male, 6 feet tall, weighing approximately 200 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes. The Toyota Camry he was driving is a 2025 model, black, bearing Utah temporary plate number A561HL.
How to Report Information
Anyone in Baja California who spots the vehicle or has information about Richman or the children should call 911 or the anonymous tip line at 089. The Baja California FGE can also be reached directly at (664) 188-2437 or (664) 152-2500. In the United States, tips can be submitted to the FBI or local law enforcement.
