A man and a woman, both estimated to be about 25 years old, were found shot dead on the night of Saturday, May 9 in the Lomas del Porvenir neighborhood of Tijuana. Both victims had gunshot wounds to the head, according to multiple local news reports.

The bodies were discovered on the corner of Pensador Mexicano and Misión Santo Tomás streets. The location falls within the Playas de Tijuana district, a southeastern area of the city that includes Infonavit public housing developments. Authorities received the report around 2 a.m. on May 10.

Victims Remain Unidentified

Neither victim had been identified as of publication. Officers from the Fiscalía General del Estado (FGE, the state attorney general’s office) cordoned off the scene to collect shell casings and process evidence. No arrests have been made, and no motive has been announced.

The double homicide was one of at least five killings reported in Tijuana within a span of hours. Earlier on the same day, workers from the Comisión Estatal de Servicios Públicos de Tijuana (CESPT, the city’s public utilities commission) found a man’s body in the Tijuana River channel near the Zona Centro at around 11:40 a.m.

Ongoing Violence in Tijuana’s Eastern Colonias

Lomas del Porvenir is a working-class residential area built through Mexico’s Infonavit public housing program. The neighborhood sits well away from Tijuana’s tourist corridors and border crossing zones. Late-night firearm attacks in colonias like this one have become a recurring pattern in the city’s southeastern and eastern districts.

Tijuana has remained one of Mexico’s most violent cities in 2026. The February cartel unrest, which saw vehicles and businesses torched across the city, put residents and cross-border commuters on edge for weeks. While that violence was linked to organized crime power struggles, individual homicides like the Lomas del Porvenir killings often go unsolved.
