Authorities discovered the bound body of an unidentified man at a landfill in Los Pocitos, Valle de la Trinidad, on Monday afternoon. The remote agricultural community sits roughly 100 kilometers east of Ensenada in Baja California’s rugged interior.
The victim’s hands and feet were tied, his body was wrapped in plastic, and gray tape covered his head. Early unofficial reports from the scene described multiple signs of violence consistent with an execution-style killing.
Forensic Teams Respond to Remote Scene
Forensic investigators and law enforcement personnel traveled to the landfill site to recover the remains and begin collecting evidence. No identification of the victim had been released at the time of publication. Authorities also had not named any suspects or announced a motive.
Valle de la Trinidad is a small farming community in the Ensenada municipality, reachable from the coast via Highway 3. The area is known for its olive groves, cattle ranches, and sparse population. Los Pocitos sits within this delegation, far from the tourist corridors of the Ensenada coastline.
Pattern of Violence in Rural Baja California
Body dumps in isolated, rural locations are a recurring pattern in Baja California’s criminal landscape. Organized crime groups have historically used remote areas, including desert roads, agricultural zones, and municipal landfills, to dispose of victims. The method described in this case, with the victim restrained and wrapped, matches tactics commonly attributed to cartel activity in the region.
Baja California recorded more than 1,500 homicides in 2024, with Tijuana accounting for the majority. Ensenada municipality, which spans a vast territory including mountain and desert zones like Valle de la Trinidad, has seen periodic spikes in violence tied to drug trafficking routes that run through its rural corridors.
The state Attorney General’s Office (FGE) is expected to lead the investigation. No official statement from the FGE had been issued as of publication. This story was first reported by Ensenada.net.
