Baja California Attorney General Ma. Elena Andrade Ramírez confirmed Wednesday that eight agents from the Fiscalía General del Estado (FGE) raided a home in the Portales 1 subdivision on June 1 as part of a narco-retail drug investigation. The homeowner, a local merchant identified as Karen, denies any connection to drug sales and is demanding that authorities present evidence.

Raid Based on Anonymous Tips

Andrade Ramírez said the search warrant was supported by multiple anonymous tips and witness accounts. Those reports identified the property as a suspected point-of-sale location for street-level drug distribution. The attorney general confirmed the investigation remains open but did not say whether agents recovered any drugs or contraband during the operation.

Eight FGE agents carried out the June 1 raid. No arrests were reported at the time. The Portales 1 subdivision is a residential neighborhood, though its exact municipality has not been specified in public statements.

Homeowner Protests Outside FGE Offices

Karen, the homeowner, staged a protest outside the Fiscalía offices on Blvd. Anáhuac demanding that authorities show her the evidence used to justify the raid. She says she has no ties to drug trafficking and that the search was unfounded.

She also alleges that 5,000 pesos (roughly $250 USD) in cash disappeared from her home during the operation. Karen has filed a formal complaint with the FGE over the missing money.

Ongoing Investigation

Andrade Ramírez has faced a challenging tenure leading Baja California’s top law enforcement office. In October 2025, she confirmed a drug cartel was behind an explosive drone attack on a Tijuana police station targeting the anti-kidnapping unit. That same month, 14 Baja California state police officers were suspended for allegedly stealing 180 kilos of cocaine. Complaints about agent conduct during raids are not uncommon in the state.

The FGE has not released further details about what, if anything, was seized from Karen’s home. The attorney general said the narco-retail investigation is ongoing and that authorities will follow proper legal procedures. No timeline for the release of evidence or formal charges has been announced.
