A Baja Gas delivery truck loaded with propane cylinders overturned on Boulevard 2000 in Tijuana on Tuesday afternoon after colliding with a red sedan near the Puerta Plata pedestrian bridge. No injuries were reported, but firefighters responded to the scene because of the hazardous cargo on board.

The accident occurred on April 28 on the eastbound lanes of Boulevard 2000, between the Natura and El Refugio neighborhoods. The collision sent the gas delivery truck onto its side, scattering propane cylinders across the roadway and spilling fluids onto the pavement.

Firefighters Called Over Propane Hazard

Tijuana firefighters arrived quickly due to the risk posed by the truck’s cargo of LP gas cylinders. While none of the tanks ruptured or ignited, the presence of pressurized propane on a busy roadway required a careful response. Emergency crews secured the area and began cleaning up fuel and fluid spills.

Baja Gas, one of northwestern Mexico’s largest LP gas distributors, dispatched a second truck to the scene. Crew members transferred the propane cylinders from the overturned vehicle to the replacement unit before the damaged truck could be removed.

Traffic Slowed Near Puerta Plata

Boulevard 2000 is a major east-west artery in Tijuana’s southeastern sprawl, connecting residential developments to the city center and the border crossing zone. The crash slowed traffic in both directions for several minutes during the cleanup operation.

Damage was limited to the Baja Gas truck and the red sedan. Authorities did not report any citations or assign fault in their initial statements. Drivers passing through the Boulevard 2000 corridor near Puerta Plata may still encounter uneven road surfaces or residual debris in the days following the incident.

The accident is a reminder of the risks associated with LP gas transport on urban roads. A gas tanker explosion on a highway in southeastern Mexico City in September 2025 killed three people and injured 70, though Tuesday’s incident in Tijuana involved smaller cylinder cargo rather than a bulk tanker.
