State security agents detained a man carrying a loaded long-barrel firearm after a foot chase through a residential Tijuana neighborhood, authorities reported.

Hacienda Las Delicias III sits in the eastern section of Tijuana, part of a sprawling residential zone that includes several similarly named housing developments. The area is a working-class neighborhood of tightly packed homes, located well away from the tourist corridors near the border or the Zona Río commercial district.

FESC Patrols in Tijuana’s Residential Zones

The FESC operates under the Baja California state government and conducts armed patrols across Tijuana’s residential areas. The force was created to supplement municipal police efforts in a city that has long struggled with gun violence. Tijuana consistently ranks among the most violent cities in Mexico by homicide count, though most violence is concentrated in specific zones tied to organized crime disputes.

Weapons arrests like this one are common in Tijuana. Under Mexican federal law, civilian possession of long-barrel firearms such as rifles and shotguns requires permits that are rarely issued. Carrying such a weapon loaded on a public street is a serious federal offense.

Authorities did not say whether the suspect had any connection to organized crime or provide a motive for why he was carrying the weapon. The case was turned over to prosecutors for further investigation.
