An armed group of approximately seven men forced their way into a home in La Paz’s Vicente Guerrero neighborhood on June 17 and abducted a 30-year-old man identified as Arturo Villalobos Castro. No arrests have been made, and the victim has not been found.
How the Kidnapping Unfolded
The incident took place at a residence near the corner of Galeana and 16 de Septiembre streets. According to the initial report, the armed men entered the home and took Villalobos Castro by force while his elderly parents watched. The group fled in a white pickup truck headed in an unknown direction.
A female relative discovered what had happened after visiting her parents’ home. She reported the abduction to authorities but later tried to cancel her report, telling officials she was reluctant to get involved. State prosecutors took the information and opened an investigation regardless of the attempted retraction.
State Prosecutors Already on Scene
When municipal police arrived at the location, state prosecutors from the FGE (Fiscalía General del Estado, the state attorney general’s office) specializing in kidnapping cases were already present. The rapid deployment of specialized prosecutors to the scene is notable, though authorities have not commented on whether they had prior intelligence about the situation.
The Vicente Guerrero neighborhood sits in a residential area of La Paz, the capital of Baja California Sur. The colonia is located in the central part of the city, away from the tourist waterfront zone along the Malecón. La Paz, home to roughly 300,000 people, has historically been considered one of the safer cities on the Baja peninsula.
No Arrests, No Motive Announced
Authorities have not disclosed a possible motive for the kidnapping. They have not said whether Villalobos Castro had any known connection to criminal organizations or whether the abduction may be linked to a personal dispute. The use of a coordinated armed unit to carry out a forced home entry follows patterns seen in organized crime operations across Mexico.
As of publication, no arrests have been made and the victim remains missing. The case is under investigation by state kidnapping prosecutors.
