Tijuana residents can expect overcast skies and mild temperatures through Friday, April 10, before a significant storm system arrives for the weekend. An upper-level trough moving across northwest Mexico will push rainfall probability from below 20% to as high as 70 to 90% on Saturday and Sunday, April 11 and 12.

Daytime highs in Tijuana through Friday will hover between 22°C and 24°C (72°F to 75°F), with mostly cloudy conditions and only a slight chance of scattered showers. The real change comes Saturday, when the incoming weather system is expected to bring steady rain and strong winds across Baja California’s Pacific coast.

Strong Winds and Gusts Up to 60 km/h

Forecasters are calling for sustained winds of 20 to 30 km/h (12 to 19 mph) across the region, with gusts reaching up to 60 km/h (37 mph). Those wind speeds can knock over unsecured outdoor furniture, scatter debris, and make driving on Highway 1 and the Rosarito toll road more hazardous, especially for high-profile vehicles.

The weekend rain could also affect Tijuana’s flood-prone areas, including sections of the Río Tijuana canal and low-lying neighborhoods in Playas de Tijuana and the Zona Este. Tijuana’s storm drainage infrastructure has struggled during past heavy rain events, and drivers should avoid underpasses and creek crossings if water is present.

Heat in the Desert, Frost in the Mountains

While the coast gets rain, conditions across Baja California will vary sharply by geography. Mexicali and San Felipe are forecast to see highs of 30°C to 35°C (86°F to 95°F), typical of their desert climate in early April. Mountain zones, including the Sierra de Juárez and Sierra San Pedro Mártir, could see overnight temperatures dip below freezing, with frost possible at higher elevations.

The temperature split is common in spring, when Pacific moisture systems cool the coast but leave the desert interior baking under clear skies. Travelers heading east from Tijuana toward Tecate or Mexicali should prepare for dramatically different weather within a two-hour drive.

What to Expect

Outdoor plans along the Tijuana, Rosarito, and Ensenada corridor this weekend will likely face disruptions. Beach outings, outdoor markets, and events in the Zona Centro should be planned with rain in mind. Conditions are expected to improve early the following week.
