Tijuana’s water and sewer utility CESPT (Comisión Estatal de Servicios Públicos de Tijuana) will partially close one lane of Boulevard Cuauhtémoc Sur from April 9 through April 11 for sewer rehabilitation work. The lane closure affects a 50-meter stretch near the EntreNubes residential development in the southern part of the city.
Crews will work on the Ensenada collector sewer line, a major trunk line that has required multiple rounds of repair in recent months. CESPT plans to operate a contraflow lane system during the closure to keep traffic moving in both directions.
Contraflow Schedule and Traffic Details
The contraflow system will run in two shifts: 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. During each window, crews will reverse the direction of a lane to balance vehicle flow based on peak demand. CESPT recommended that drivers allow extra travel time and use alternate routes when possible.
Boulevard Cuauhtémoc Sur is one of Tijuana’s main north-south arterial roads, connecting neighborhoods in the southern zone to the city center and the border crossing area. Any reduction in lane capacity on this corridor can create significant backups, especially during morning and evening rush hours.
Part of Ongoing Ensenada Collector Repairs
This is not the first closure tied to the Ensenada collector project. On January 26, CESPT carried out a similar partial lane closure on the same boulevard, that time affecting a 280-meter stretch near the Altamirano ramp close to the Calimax Montesinos store. The recurring work points to the scale of rehabilitation needed on this aging sewer trunk line.
Drivers heading to or from the Tijuana International Airport, Playas de Tijuana, or neighborhoods along the southern corridor should plan for delays on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday of this week. The closure runs through Saturday, April 11, so weekend travelers should also take note.
