Tijuana’s fire department responded to four residential fires in 24 hours this week, including a Thursday night blaze that damaged three homes in the El Tecolote neighborhood. No injuries were reported in any of the incidents.
The Thursday fire broke out near Prolongación San Quintín and Ensenada streets. Flames spread from the original structure and reached two neighboring homes before firefighters contained the blaze. The cause is under investigation.
El Tecolote is a working-class neighborhood on Tijuana’s east side. It draws longer-term expat renters looking for affordable housing away from the tourist corridor. If you live or rent in the area, the cluster of four fires in a single day is worth taking seriously.
Tijuana’s Dirección de Bomberos, the city’s municipal fire department, handled all four calls within the 24-hour window. The department has not released a public statement on response times or whether any of the fires share a common cause.
Four residential fires in one day is an unusual volume for any single jurisdiction. Tijuana’s fire department covers a sprawling, fast-growing city, and some outer neighborhoods have limited hydrant infrastructure and narrow access roads that slow response times.
Residents in older or densely built neighborhoods should review basic fire safety now. Check that your home has working smoke detectors. Know your nearest exit routes. Keep the Tijuana fire department emergency line saved: 664-688-0348. The general emergency number across Baja California is 911.
Zeta Tijuana first reported the Thursday blaze. BDN will follow any official statement from the fire department on the broader pattern of incidents this week.
