Mexico’s Tax Administration Service (SAT) is working to open a new office in eastern Tijuana, a move that would bring federal tax services closer to one of the city’s fastest-growing areas. Jesús García Castro, the SAT director for Baja California, confirmed the plan to expand the agency’s physical presence in the region.

Easing the Burden on Existing Offices

The new SAT office in east Tijuana would serve residents who currently must travel across the city to handle in-person tax procedures. These include RFC (Federal Taxpayer Registry) registrations, tax filings, and other fiscal paperwork that often requires a physical appointment.

Getting a SAT appointment in Tijuana is already a challenge. A recent Reddit thread from July 2025 showed local residents reporting no available appointments and long virtual queues, with some users advising others to try smaller offices in places like Playas de Rosarito to avoid the wait. A dedicated office in the eastern zone could help relieve that pressure.

Tijuana’s current SAT office operates at Rampa Xicoténcatl 126 in the Empleados Federales neighborhood, near the city center. That location is open Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. For residents in communities like El Florido, Valle de las Palmas, or other eastern colonias, the trip can take well over an hour by public transit.

Part of a Broader SAT Expansion

The announcement aligns with SAT’s 2026 Master Plan, which calls for new taxpayer service modules and mobile offices across all 32 Mexican states. The federal plan also promises expanded appointment systems and more online procedures. The east Tijuana office would represent a concrete step in that direction for Baja California.

Eastern Tijuana has experienced significant population growth in recent years as housing developments have pushed the city’s footprint farther from the border. The area now includes large residential zones that lack many government service offices.

García Castro did not announce a specific location or timeline for the new office. No opening date has been set, and it remains unclear whether the facility will operate on the same schedule as the existing Tijuana office.
