OOMSAPAS Los Cabos, the municipal water utility (Organismo Operador Municipal del Sistema de Agua Potable, Alcantarillado y Saneamiento), has published the current water rationing calendar for San José del Cabo. The rotating schedule assigns specific days without service to more than two dozen neighborhoods across the city.
Which Neighborhoods Lose Water and When
Under the general network schedule, Zacatal, Santa Rosa, Villas de Cortez, Monterreal, Country del Mar, and the Tanque Zacatal zone will have service suspended on Mondays and Tuesdays. On Wednesdays and Thursdays, the shutoff shifts to Colinas San José, Colinas Plus, Nicolás Tamaral, Julia Navarrete, Lomas del Rosarito, Colosio, Rosarito, Magisterial, Santa Rosa, and Santa Rosa Fundador.
Neighborhoods supplied by the San José del Cabo water treatment plant follow a separate rotation. Vista Hermosa Súper (blocks 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, and 23), Guardia Nacional, Ampliación Vista Hermosa, and Vista Hermosa Plus receive service on Mondays and Tuesdays under that schedule. Other colonias on the treatment plant system rotate through later in the week.
Why the Rationing Exists
OOMSAPAS described the rotating outage plan as a way to create more equitable water distribution during peak demand season. The utility has been adjusting its rationing program since at least late April, when it introduced a new rotation to balance supply between San José del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas.
In May, OOMSAPAS Director Ramón Rubio said the agency was working to reduce delivery intervals to fewer than 20 days as population growth continues to strain the system. In Cabo San Lucas, desalination plant No. 1 contributes roughly 120 liters per second, but demand in both cities continues to climb with the summer heat.
What Residents Should Do
Residents can check which days their colonia is scheduled for shutoffs through the OOMSAPAS official website or social media channels. Filling a tinaco (rooftop storage tank) or cistern the day before a scheduled outage is the most practical step. OOMSAPAS urged all residents to conserve water to help the system operate efficiently during the high-demand months.
The utility said it will continue implementing technical and operational improvements to water distribution in San José del Cabo throughout the season.
