The paving of Paseo Los Marinos in the Mauricio Castro neighborhood of San José del Cabo has reached 88% completion, according to the Los Cabos municipal government. The XV Ayuntamiento de Los Cabos (15th Municipal Council) announced the progress on March 28 as part of its road infrastructure improvement program.

Crews are using hydraulic concrete on Paseo Los Marinos, a material chosen for its durability compared to traditional asphalt. The Public Works directorate is overseeing the project to ensure quality standards and schedule compliance.

Over 6,800 Residents to Benefit

The municipal government estimates the finished road will benefit more than 6,800 residents in the surrounding area. Officials say the project will improve traffic flow, strengthen connectivity between neighborhoods, and increase safety for both drivers and pedestrians.

The Mauricio Castro neighborhood sits in the residential core of San José del Cabo, away from the tourist hotel zone. Many of its streets have historically lacked proper paving, a common issue in the rapidly growing colonias on the outskirts of Los Cabos’ two main cities.

Part of a Broader Infrastructure Push

The Paseo Los Marinos project is part of a larger package of public works for the current fiscal year. The municipality has framed these efforts as a push to address long-standing infrastructure gaps in San José del Cabo’s residential areas, where population growth has outpaced road construction for years.

Los Cabos has been tackling several major road projects at once. A separate, larger initiative at the Glorieta Fonatur intersection along Highway 1, which began in May 2025, is also nearing completion. That federal and state project aims to relieve congestion at a junction that handles more than 60,000 vehicles per day, connecting the airport, downtown San José del Cabo, and the tourist corridor to Cabo San Lucas.

No completion date has been announced for Paseo Los Marinos, but with work at 88%, the remaining construction is expected to wrap up in the coming weeks. The story was first reported by BCS Noticias.
