The Los Cabos municipal government closed several downtown San José del Cabo streets on Thursday, May 1, for the annual Labor Day parade. Road closures began at 6:00 a.m. and are expected to remain in effect until 11:00 a.m.

The parade itself kicked off at 8:00 a.m. from Valerio González Street near the Secundaria Antonio Mijares school. From there, the route proceeds along Antonio Mijares Street, passing in front of city hall, before turning onto Manuel Doblado and then José María Morelos y Pavón. The march ends at the sports complex on Copa México 70.

New Route Chosen by Union Vote

This year’s parade follows a new path through downtown. Municipal officials said the route was selected through a collective vote by union representatives who coordinated with the municipality in advance. The change means some streets that were open during past parades may now be blocked, and vice versa.

Security personnel, traffic officers, and civil protection crews are managing the closures at key intersections along the route. Hydration stations have been set up at points along the march to assist participants in the morning heat.

What Drivers Need to Know

Drivers heading into or through downtown San José del Cabo should expect significant delays until at least 11:00 a.m. The affected streets run through the historic center, an area heavily used by both residents and visitors.

The municipality is urging anyone who needs to cross downtown to use alternate routes. The closures affect the corridor between the Secundaria Antonio Mijares neighborhood and the sports complex, covering several blocks of the town’s core.

May 1 is a federal holiday in Mexico, known as Día del Trabajo. Banks, government offices, and many businesses are closed for the day. The annual parade brings together workers from local unions and trade organizations to march through the municipal seat.

All streets are expected to reopen by late morning once the parade concludes and cleanup crews finish their work. This report is based on information published by BCS Noticias.
