State security forces arrested a 46-year-old Sinaloa man in Tecate Saturday night after residents reported up to 15 gunshots in the Nueva Hindú neighborhood. Officers found him carrying a loaded 9mm pistol with 12 rounds in his waistband.
The FESC, Baja California’s state citizen security force, responded to the shooting report and located the suspect at the scene. The operation included support from SEDENA, Mexico’s federal defense ministry, the Navy secretariat, and the AEI, the state criminal investigation agency.
Officers stopped the man, identified only as Pedro, and searched him. They recovered a black 9mm pistol with a magazine and 12 live rounds.
Authorities transferred Pedro and the weapon to the FGR, Mexico’s federal prosecutor’s office, in Tijuana. Federal prosecutors will lead the investigation.
The Nueva Hindú neighborhood sits in a residential section of Tecate, a small border city east of Tijuana. Armed incidents in the area are not common, but Saturday’s episode drew a multi-agency response within hours.
