Los Cabos Mayor Christian Agúndez Gómez formally delivered the completed paving of Calle Paseo Cabo de Oro in the Los Cangrejos neighborhood of Cabo San Lucas. The project cost approximately 20.5 million pesos (about $1.1 million USD) and was carried out through the municipal social development office.
The street received hydraulic concrete paving along with upgraded basic services infrastructure. According to municipal sources, the work benefits hundreds of families living in Los Cangrejos, a residential colonia located inland from the tourist corridor with the postal code 23473.
Part of a Broader Paving Push in Cabo San Lucas
The Paseo Cabo de Oro project is one piece of a larger paving campaign across Cabo San Lucas neighborhoods. The municipality recently completed work on Calle Tiburón and Calle Paseo Los Cabos, both also in the Los Cangrejos area. Nearby Colonia Altamira and Boulevard Paseo San Lucas have also received recent improvements.
The broader effort includes hydraulic concrete paving, new sidewalks, public lighting, potable water lines, storm drainage, and road signage. La Pola BCS reported that the combined projects in the area could benefit around 80,000 residents once all phases are complete. The Paseo Los Cabos street, which connects Los Cangrejos to Colonia Altamira, was inaugurated separately.
Funding and Upcoming Projects
Financing for the Los Cangrejos paving work comes through the Fideicomiso de Obras de Infraestructura Social de Los Cabos (FOIS), a public trust funded by a portion of the state payroll tax. FOIS channels revenue from a 0.5% share of the 2.5% payroll tax into urban infrastructure and public works across the municipality.
Agúndez Gómez said the administration prioritizes infrastructure projects based on resident requests and technical feasibility. The mayor announced that paving of Calle Pez Vela will begin before year’s end. Improvements to the main park in Los Cangrejos are also planned.
Los Cangrejos sits roughly two kilometers northwest of Cabo San Lucas’s downtown marina area. The colonia is home to working families and small businesses that serve the local economy. For residents who have long dealt with unpaved roads and dust, the concrete streets represent a tangible upgrade to daily life.
