Hundreds of families in two Cabo San Lucas neighborhoods received food staples, clothing, and footwear during the latest stop of the Los Cabos municipal government’s traveling Social Days program on July 7.
The event, organized by the XV Ayuntamiento de Los Cabos (the current municipal administration), brought aid to the Mezquites and Altos de Miranda neighborhoods. Both areas sit roughly 6 kilometers northwest of downtown Cabo San Lucas. Municipal staff set up stations where residents could file service requests and learn about available government programs.
Infrastructure Upgrades Announced for the Area
Beyond the distribution of basic goods, city officials used the event to announce infrastructure improvements for the two neighborhoods. The municipality will deploy heavy machinery for road and grading work and add 20 water tanker trucks (known locally as “pipas”) to strengthen the water supply in the area.
Water delivery by tanker truck is common in newer or more remote Cabo San Lucas neighborhoods that lack full connections to the municipal water system. The 20 additional trucks are intended to reduce wait times for residents who depend on scheduled deliveries.
Solar Street Lights and Public Health Warnings
Officials also confirmed plans to install one kilometer of solar-powered street lighting along a lateral road in Altos de Miranda. The solar lights will provide coverage in a stretch that currently lacks illumination, a safety concern residents have raised repeatedly.
During the event, authorities urged residents to stop dumping wastewater into public streets, a practice that creates health hazards and damages unpaved roads. Families were also told to inspect and maintain their home electrical installations to prevent fires and other dangers.
Program to Continue Across Cabo San Lucas
The Social Days program, known in Spanish as Jornadas Sociales, operates as a mobile outreach effort. Municipal workers travel to underserved neighborhoods to distribute goods and connect residents with city services. The initiative will continue visiting other Cabo San Lucas neighborhoods in the coming weeks, according to the municipal government.
