Los Cabos International Airport (SJD) will gain seven new domestic and international routes in 2026, with two Canadian carriers launching nonstop service and more than 100,000 additional seats coming online.

Porter Airlines and Air Transat are the Canadian newcomers. Porter will begin direct flights from Toronto and Edmonton on November 16, 2026, operating three and four weekly flights respectively. The airline will add Ottawa service on December 18, flying twice per week. Air Transat will launch a Montreal to Los Cabos route starting December 10.

Southwest and Volaris Expand U.S. and Domestic Access

On the U.S. side, Southwest Airlines is adding two routes to SJD: Indianapolis and Las Vegas. Southwest already serves Los Cabos from several U.S. cities, and the new connections open the destination to the Midwest and to travelers in southern Nevada.

Mexican low-cost carrier Volaris will launch a Los Cabos to Puebla route in June 2026. That domestic link gives residents and visitors a direct connection to central Mexico without routing through Mexico City or Guadalajara.

Canadian Market Continues to Surge

The four new Canadian routes come during a period of rapid growth in Canadian tourism to southern Baja. Canada is now one of Los Cabos’ fastest-growing international markets, with annual arrivals estimated between 215,000 and 240,000 visitors. Canadian travelers tend to stay longer than other international visitors, averaging roughly 11 nights per trip. Their winter travel season runs from November through April, overlapping with Los Cabos’ peak months.

Rodrigo Esponda, managing director of the Los Cabos Tourism Board, has said airlines are adding service because demand from Canadian travelers remains strong and consistent. Carriers including Air Canada, WestJet, Sunwing, and Flair Airlines already operate routes from Canada to SJD. Porter and Air Transat now join that roster.

Over 100,000 New Seats

Combined, the seven new routes will create more than 100,000 available seats on flights into Los Cabos. The expansion builds on years of investment in air service at SJD, which has steadily added carriers and destinations to serve the region’s hotel and real estate growth. For travelers based in Baja California Sur, the new routes also mean more options for outbound flights to Canada, the U.S., and central Mexico.
