The Los Cabos municipal council approved a 10 million peso (approximately $500,000 USD) addition to its 2026 public works budget during a session on July 9. The funds come from federal revenue-sharing allocations known as Ramo 28 and will go toward infrastructure projects across the municipality.
Council members voted on the budget modification during the 23rd ordinary session of the Los Cabos Cabildo. Officials described the extra funding as a way to strengthen “priority actions and works,” though specific projects were not named in the session record.
Land Donated for New Technical High School
In the same session, the council authorized the donation of a 15,000-square-meter parcel in Colonia Los Cangrejos, Cabo San Lucas, to the Secretaría de Educación Pública (SEP), the federal education ministry. The land will be used to build a Centro de Bachillerato Tecnológico Industrial y de Servicios (CBTIS), a federally operated technical high school.
CBTIS campuses offer vocational and technical training alongside a standard high school curriculum. The new campus aims to expand upper-secondary education options for teenagers in Cabo San Lucas, a city where rapid population growth has strained existing school capacity.
Council Members Granted Leave
The Cabildo also approved temporary leaves of absence for two council members. Jesús Alberto Alvarado Aragón, the fifth regidor, and Andrés Liceaga Gómez, the third regidor, will step away from their posts effective July 15. The approvals followed standard administrative procedures to ensure continuity of council functions.
The budget increase is the latest in a series of infrastructure investments by the Los Cabos municipality in 2026. In May, officials announced 152 million pesos for new public services equipment, including garbage collection and urban maintenance machinery. The city also completed 80 million pesos in water infrastructure projects carried out during the 2025 fiscal year and invested 42 million pesos in rural community support across Santiago, Miraflores, and outlying areas of Cabo San Lucas.
Just last week, the municipality inaugurated a 37 million peso (about $2.1 million USD) pumping station and drainage system in Miraflores, addressing longstanding wastewater problems in that community.
The 10 million peso addition is modest compared to these larger outlays, but it gives the public works department additional flexibility for the second half of the fiscal year. No timeline was given for when specific projects funded by the increase would be announced.
