La Paz traffic authorities will shut down several major streets this Saturday and Sunday, July 11 and 12, for a fishing expo, a ceviche festival, and two foot races. The closures center on the Paseo Álvaro Obregón malecón corridor, the city’s main waterfront road used to reach hotels, restaurants, and marinas.
The Dirección General de Seguridad Vial y Transporte (the state road safety and transit agency) announced the closures to ensure safety and mobility during the events. Drivers and pedestrians near the waterfront should expect significant disruptions on both days.
Saturday Closures: Fishing Expo and Ceviche Festival
On Saturday, July 11, Paseo Álvaro Obregón will be closed between Agustín Arriola and 5 de Mayo from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Calle Independencia will also be shut down during the same hours. The closures accommodate two events: the Expo Pesca MAJA El Grande 2026, a fishing industry expo, and “El Gran Ceviche con Causa,” a large-scale ceviche competition and charity event.
La Paz is one of the top sportfishing destinations on the Sea of Cortez. The expo draws anglers, charter operators, and gear vendors to the waterfront each year.
Sunday Closures: Waiter Race and Anti-Violence Run
On Sunday, July 12, the same malecón-area closures remain in place starting at 7 a.m. for the Primera Carrera de Meseros, a waiter race where restaurant servers run a course while carrying trays. The road will reopen once the event wraps up.
A separate closure will affect Avenida de los Deportistas and Calle Carabineros from 6 to 10 a.m. Sunday for the Segunda Carrera Vida Libre de Violencia 2026, a race promoting awareness against domestic violence.
Alternate Routes and Traffic Officers
Authorities said dedicated traffic lanes will stay open on Avenida de los Deportistas and Bulevar Luis Donaldo Colosio to keep vehicles moving through the city. Traffic officers will be posted throughout the affected zones to direct drivers.
Residents and visitors heading to waterfront businesses, the marina, or hotels along the malecón should plan alternate routes on both days. Parking near the closed sections of Paseo Álvaro Obregón will not be available during event hours.
