Municipal crews in La Paz responded to more than 150 sewer-related service calls during May, clearing blocked drains and cleaning up sewage spills across 13 neighborhoods. Mayor Milena Quiroga Romero said the city is treating sanitation infrastructure as a public health priority.

The affected neighborhoods span a wide area of the municipality. They include Centro, the commercial and historic heart of La Paz, as well as El Centenario, a fast-growing community about 30 kilometers southwest of downtown. Todos Santos, the coastal town roughly 80 kilometers north on the Pacific side, also received sewer repair attention.

La Paz App Serves as Main Reporting Tool

Quiroga Romero credited the municipal La Paz App as the primary channel through which residents reported sewer problems. The app allows users to submit service requests directly to city departments, bypassing traditional phone lines or in-person visits to government offices.

For anyone living in or visiting the La Paz municipality, the app is the fastest way to flag infrastructure problems such as clogged drains, sewage overflows, broken water mains, or damaged streets. It is available for download on both iOS and Android devices.

Why Sewer Problems Spike in La Paz

Aging sewer infrastructure is a persistent challenge in La Paz, where population growth has outpaced upgrades to underground pipes and drainage systems. Grease buildup, debris, and tree root intrusion are common causes of blockages. During warmer months, sewer backups can create strong odors and raise concerns about contamination near beaches and residential areas.

The 13 neighborhoods served in May represent a broad geographic sweep, from urban colonias near the malecón to outlying communities along Highway 19. Addressing 150-plus calls in a single month points to both the scale of the problem and the municipality’s effort to keep pace with demand.

Residents who encounter sewer issues can file a report through the La Paz App or contact municipal services directly. The city has not announced additional infrastructure investment beyond the ongoing maintenance program. This story was first reported by BCS Noticias.
