A fire broke out Sunday morning at an office building at the corner of Avenida Madero and Calle Cuarta in downtown Tijuana, prompting a response from multiple emergency agencies. The blaze was reported around 8:40 a.m. on June 7.
Firefighters from stations 6 and 17 arrived at the scene and contained the fire before it could spread to other floors of the building. Authorities confirmed no deaths or injuries occurred, with damage limited to the structure and its contents.
Emergency Response and Road Closures
Red Cross ambulance crews and Civil Protection units also responded to the scene as a precaution. Avenida Madero, one of downtown Tijuana’s main commercial corridors, was closed between Calle Tercera and Calle Quinta while firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze.
The road closure caused traffic disruptions throughout the central zone during the morning hours. The intersection of Madero and Calle Cuarta sits in one of the most heavily trafficked parts of downtown Tijuana, just blocks from the pedestrian border crossing to San Ysidro.
Investigation Underway
Forensic investigators from the Fiscalía General del Estado (FGE), Baja California’s state attorney general’s office, are now working at the scene to determine the cause of the fire. Authorities have not released details about what may have started the blaze or what types of businesses operate inside the building.
Downtown Tijuana has seen several fire incidents in recent years. In March 2026, five homes caught fire in the Leandro Valle neighborhood. In August 2023, a major fire at a polyurethane factory in the Yamile subdivision required the evacuation of 54 people, and in May 2023, an explosion at a commercial building in Tijuana’s East Zone injured 25 people.
Residual traffic delays in the area around Avenida Madero may continue as investigators complete their work at the scene. Those traveling through central Tijuana on foot or by car should consider alternate routes along Avenida Constitución or Avenida Revolución.
